OMG I just had to tell you all - I’ve just had a fantastic morning running around Patching with all my buddies. I had to keep my muzzle on but hey at least I get to run around a bit now. I’m trying carefully to watch where mum goes but this morning I went after a big running thing (a deer mum says) with the other dogs and I went so much faster than any of them that they lost me - fortunately I’m not stupid and I knew where they were waiting for me and I was on my way back to them when Manny saw me

Mum’s been working with a dog behaviorist with me - it’s been such fun Mum’s trying to load pics and a wee video but she struggled before and is cursing and swearing at photobucket.

Mum says she is so proud of me (and Manny of course - but that’s another story. Woof Baxter

Hi Guy’s,

Just to let you all know that Hendrix is doing really well living here with Richard, Toots, Clover, Bailey and myself. He has been with us for the last 3 months and has turned out to be a real charmer he really has us all twisted around his little paw. Hendrix loves going for his walks, but doesn’t like puddles or getting wet and will do anything he can think of not to go out into the rain. He eats really well now and has stopped trying to gobble all of his meals in one go he now know’s he is going to be fed, treats wise Hendrix(or Henny as we call him)has learned to be gentle it has taken some time to teach this but he is a lot better now. Hendrix will make a family or a couple a very lovely pet, he gets on really well with children of all ages and is very gentle with dogs of all sizes.

Yesterday we saw Theo come to stay with us and so far so good, he is quite vocal when out on the lead, however I think this is pure excitement as he just wants to see and look at everything. Theo has been very good with my dogs Toots who is a Lurcher(and the doggy boss), Clover another Lurcher and Bailey our Dalmatian, he seams to have found his feet among them all. Theo even to managed to walk up and down the stairs this morning after not knowing what to do yesterday we are all so proud of him.

I will keep going with everything and the boys get on really well together witch is great, speak to you all soon I hope.

Toots, Clover,Bailey,Hendrix and Theo’s Mum

Today foster Nuala received her first piece of mail - a lovely fleece jacket made specially for her by her Auntie Vivienne Stewart. Nuala sends thanks and licks to Viv and will be nice and cosy (and looking great!) this winter

Nuala Update

My foster Nuala was rescued from horrific conditions along with her daughter Orla and mum of the pups Ailsa. She spent her first 6 Christmas’s locked in a shed. However, this Christmas she enjoyed it as a house dog:

Waiting for Santa
http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab99/laura_dixon19/Dec516.jpg

Opening presents
http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab99/laura_dixon19/Dec521.jpg

Playing with presents
http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab99/laura_dixon19/Dec524.jpg

and her first time in an off-lead dog enclosure
http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab99/laura_dixon19/Dec513.jpg

She did take time to help fundraise for other hounds needing our help
http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab99/laura_dixon19/Dec299.jpg

Nuala has become a great house dog. She now sleeps through the night, can happily be left home (with a kong) and her accidents in the house are almost non-exisitent. Not to mention her love of hugs and cuddles. She is very well behaved with dogs she knows. However, in her pre-GAL life Nuala was attacked repeated by other dogs (and has the scars to show for it :( so is now understandably wary of new dogs. If the dog is friendly, Nuala is interested but very well behaved. But if the dog is aggressive she responds with an ‘I’m going to get you before you get me’ attitude. I’m hoping that as Nuala meets more and more dogs without any negative experiences, this reaction will decrease. She’s only been with Bruce and I for about 2.5 months and has made great progress. Things can only improve for Nuala

Fantastic Fagin

We collected our Golden Oldie foster boy, Fagin on Friday. He’s a cracking soul with a lovely temperment. He has settled straight in, hasn’t had any accidents and sleeps downstairs on his own at night.

He and Ozzy are getting on well, Ozzy has had a couple of grumbles at him, mainly when Fagin has been sniffing him too much. He has put up with an earwash from Ozzy (and responded by licking Ozzy’s sore paw!) and an attempt from Ozzy to get him to play (didn’t really understand what Ozzy was wanting, but most dogs don’t!).

Fagin has had an upset tummy and a sore throat and is finding dry food had to eat so we’ve been cooking him chicken, rice and eggs, which he’s loving. He and Ozzy wait patiently in the kitchen while the chicken is cooking and their meals are being prepared.

Fagin takes treats gently and will sit, give a paw or lie down for one. If he’s feeling impatient, he’ll bark too! He is a smart cookie and knows he can get attention from barking, some many have heard him on Sunday when he felt he wan’t getting enough fuss! He also tried it again at the vets on Monday as we had to wait quite awhile to be seen. He has also done it a couple of times when he’s been on the otherside of the baby gate waiting for his dinner. We’re telling him no and closing the kitchen door - which seems to be working.

It was a very sad day last Tuesday when I got a message to say Julie’s little pup , Ruby , had passed away. Ruby was a regular at the walks with her “brother”, Big Ben, Julie and her family. We will all miss her , but no-one will miss her more than Julie and Ben.
So sad that a wee pup loved so much has been taken away so early.

Run free wee girl.

I thought members might be interested in a product that we’ve recently discovered. We’ve been searching for a product to help eliminate tartar build up and inflamed gums which is a problem that Arnie has in spite of regular toothbrushing. The product is called Petzlife Oral Care, we bought this a couple of weeks ago, it comes in a gel or a spray and we initially bought the spray. We followed the instructions to spray x3 onto the worst affected areas either side of the mouth twice daily - no problem with Arnie since he’ll allow us to do anything to him but when it came to Max he freaked out at the sound of the spray and Kirsty wasn’t too thrilled. We then ordered the gel which is the same product -we’ve now been using Petzlife twice daily for just over a week and already the results are impressive - just rubbing a finger across the areas of tartar and plaque and it’s starting to fall away. After two weeks we’ll reduce the frequency of application. I’ll probably buy the gel in future, it’s easy to apply by putting a blob on your finger and rubbing it onto the teeth & gums. The 12oz bottle of gel is about £52 which although expensive it’s certainly cheaper than a vet visit and avoids the stress of this and the worry of an anaesthetic if it’s needed. We bought it from Canine Natural Cures http://www.caninenaturalcures.co.uk Tel 08451279903 - delivery was next day. If anyone’s interested I’ll keep you posted. Cathy
