Great British Greyhound Walk 2012

What is the Great British Greyhound Walk all about?

If you joined one of the 2288 dogs at one of the 58 walks in 2011 then you’ll know …
it’s an opportunity for greyhound and lurcher owners around Great Britain and Ireland to come together at simultaneous walks they have arranged to celebrate retired hounds and show everyone that they make great family pets.

If you weren’t involved last year but you want to have a go this year you could make it …
The start of a new social walking and owner support group.
An event on your walking groups calendar
Part of a bigger fundraising day or a PR event to promote the homing of greyhounds
Or just a one-off event for a group of owners, large or small

When is it?
Sunday 24th June 2012

What time?
We’d love everyone to walk at 10am then we would truly have x thousands of greyhounds walking together at the same time, plus it’s not too hot at that time and leaves time at the end for activities.

Where is it?
At as many locations as possible throughout Britain and Ireland.

How do we get involved?
You can find your nearest walk by checking on our web site
http://www.greatbritishgreyhoundwalk.btck.co.uk/

If you already run greyhound walks and would like to have a walk as part of the GBGW then simply register your walk. The form you need can be downloaded from the website above.
If you’ve never run a walk before but are interested then contact us by email, post or through the GBGW website and we can send you our guidelines for running a walk. We’ll give you all the help we can to make your walk as easy as possible. Last year there were lots of first time walks which have now become regular events, so beware, it can be addictive! Once your walk’s registered we’ll keep in touch with regular updates

Of course, the stars of the day will be our “Lonely Hearts Club” - taking part in the Homeless Hounds Parade. Will you fall in love with one of our hearthrob hounds looking for their forever home?

We’ll also have the GAL Shop, raffle, tombola and stalls on the day to enjoy - as well as the popular South Dalziel Studio Cafe to keep everyone fed and watered.

Happy Gotcha Day to Mojo

In December 2007 I was in Glasgow doing Christmas shopping and came across the annual can collection at Buchanan Galleries where I meet Mojo. Totally fell in love with his big amber eyes. After a successful home visit from Linda my husband and I travelled to the kennels in Greenock (I think) on 13th January 2008 where we picked up Mojo. He came home slightly hyper but soon settled down and it has been a great pleasure having him as a part of the Edwards family. He hardly ever barks and in fact I think we have heard him bark maybe about 4 times. He is the most loveable, friendly dog you could ever meet. Likes his comforts and enjoys lying beside me every night on the couch. A great addition to the family. Happy Gotcha Day Mojo - you are the best dog ever (as well as Nuala that we got on 1st November 2008). Mojo and Nuala’s Mum

I’d thought I’d better introduce myself to those who don’t know me.

I’m Paul Flanigan and have been actively supporting GAL for the past 2 and a half years. For the past 9 months I’ve been the Homing Co-ordinator and Vice Convenor and can be seen at most walks and events in my orange tabbard trying to control the boisterous Jake while Mika looks on quietly. I’m continuing to co-ordinate the homing of the dogs as well.

We have a hard working group of volunteers on the committee and hope we can look forward to the continued support of the membership and hope this year will be an even better year for the dogs and GAL.

Paul.

A couple of hours ago, on the A43 between Kettering and Northampton (Broughton area), two greyhounds were seen being thrown out of the back doors of a moving transit van a couple of cars ahead of the girl who witnessed this. One of the dogs only has 3 legs and both appeared to be covered in blood and tied together. We think they managed to get into a field nearby and cannot be seen at present. Police have been informed. If anyone is in the area please keep a lookout for them. If you have ANY info or can help join the search please call 07554990804
Please SHARE on facebook, forums and cross-post far and wide.
Thank you

Poor Murphy only came in to GALs care 9 days ago but he left for Rainbow Bridge this morning.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd225/pimpernil/Dogs/MurphyDec11.jpg

Murphy was saved by a kind hearted vet who couldn’t put him to sleep for no reason. Unbeknown to everyone he was terminally ill, which is probably why his racing career came to an end in the first place. At least he knew love at the end.

Run free Murphy.

Hello there
Ditto is 9 yrs old and she normally goes to Granny’s for her holidays. But Granny can’t really take her for walks anymore, so Ditto is looking for a friend in the Glasgow area who would like to do holiday cover swaps (we are West Glasgow G15). We thought about professional services, but she is fussy about breeds and prefers the company of other greyhounds/lurchers/whippets. So we could offer to take your greyhound for your holidays and Ditto could come to yours for ours. If you are interested we’d love to hear from you and to meet up and see how the dogs get along.
Happy New Year!
Ditto, Lucy and Lu
