I’ve just noticed that Morses pads have become very light in colour in the middle of each pad. It looks as if the hard black surface has been worn away to reveal a pinkish/whitish skin.

Does anyone know if pads can get worn away and if so, would he be more comfortable walking more on grass and less on pavement?

I am not sure about the pads wearing away. But Kiera does have the same thing happening & I think it has been a more recent change. She does not seem to be in any distress so never really worried about it.

Anyone else know about the dog pads wearing away ?

Weird, I’ve noticed that too but we were at the vet this morning - see other post - and the vet didn’t seem concerned about them at all.
I don’t treat his pads with anything, could it be a summer thing?

question
hi my greyhound misty has a sore back paw.
i have been told they can suffer from bad paws.
we have made a shoe for her and wash it in saline water.
we have been to the vets about it and he was not too botherd about it.
i have found this
mix a betadine solution with water until it looks like tea, and then fill an eyedropper with the solution and squirt it into the paw. Do this several times per day, at least three. The important thing is to clip the fur away from the paw and don’t cover it with any bandage, or it can’t heal properly. It has to heal from the inside out. I also begin to administer antibiotic herbs orally, to help fight any infection that may occur. Another course of action.
Fresh aloe is an excellent application for those strange cuts and scrapes we can never figure out how our pet got. It is a natural antiseptic, and will keep the area moist until the cut can heal. Alternatively, you can clean the wound with a wash of goldenseal, and apply aloe or other herbal treatments that are your favorites.
One teaspoon (less for very small animals, such as ferrets) of cod liver oil dribbled over the pet’s food once or twice per week will give a thick, shiny coat, as well as provide many nutrients needed by your pet’s body to combat tBoots Pharmaceuticals Antiseptic Liquid (500ml)2261707.
what do you guys think about this?
can eny body els give me any ideas.
i was told to use a shoe when she goes out in wet weathers.
one last thing i have a photo of misty but this website wont let me down load it?
do i need to be member for some time

I’ve had a number of foster’s who’ve had worn pink patches on their pads. It never seemed to bother them but I’m a stickler for supplementing food with various oils/vitamins/etc.
It ifs not bothering Morse, I wouldn’t worry but I’m sure as dogs age, walking on grass/softer surfaces will be more comfortable in terms of joints anyway. (even if you’re supplementing, etc -I’m evening finding this true for myself as I age!)

Hi guys, are you sure Misty’s problem is the pads and not arthritis which is very common in greyhounds?
I always have a bowl of saltwater ready for my boys if they have a sore pad or cut on return from a walk. Its a great healer.
If it is arthritis there are lots of things to try from chrondoitin and glucosamine supplements (human kind is much cheaper than vet bought and just the same) to anti inflammataries like Metacam.
Hope this helps!
