Tonight I decided to try Donnie out with toys, I introduced him to a hard-wearing material squeak toy which Byron has had for some months but gave up on because the squeak is fairly well hidden and he couldn’t be bothered trying to make it make noise.
Donnie had a different approach… http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t47/tootsmazza/?action=view¤t=donnie001.flv
The distraction, by the way, making Donnie look up is the huge fireworks outside which have Byron trembling uncontrollably on the sofa!
Donnie is less disturbed!

Donovan is going from strength to strength, he loves his toys and learned his place in the pack very quickly. Last night he overstepped the boundaries with Nellie when he decided to have a mad play as she was roaching and ran right over her. She yelped (it looked very, very sore) and immediately pinned him against the wall by the neck.
It was reminiscent of a mother lion chastising a cub - ie looked scary but in actual fact she didn’t do any harm just gave him a proper telling off!
He spent the rest of the night lyng beside her trying to get back in her good books in a very ‘see I’m being good’ kind of way.
It showed me how far Nell has come in the 16 months since I took her in. This time last year she was such a dominant female you could not trust her not to cause real injury in a similar situation.
The first weekend I had her we had an incident with another female greyhound who dared to growl at her and had a visit to the vets as a result.
And there was a time when she could not be in the same room with another female without a muzzle, just in case.
But she has developed real restraint living with Byron, I am sure she knows he is ‘special’, and a more maternal side has come out.
Even though she pinned Donnie, I knew she would not hurt him and I couldn’t have said that a year ago!
A great deal of credit for this goes to our dogsitters Lorna and Steve who have her in with their pack five days a week.
Donnie is spending the weekend with a new pal and we are all very excited about it. Not least Byron and Nell who are looking forward to at least a few days of getting back to normal.
I will enjoy not trying to juggle three leads, and if his new pal likes him…who knows!
Watch this space.
Donnie is having great fun in his new foster home with his pal JJ and it will not be long before he goes to his forever home.
Byron is loving being the No1 man again at home but here’s a pic of the boys and Nellie enjoying a treat - once Donnie had discovered what they were… http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t47/tootsmazza/P9070363.jpg
Last week I had a brief overnight visit from new boy Ziggy who was enroute to his new home. My pair stayed at the sitters, Ziggy was the most chilled greyhound I have ever seen in a new environment and quickly gathered Byron’s toys up, look at that face! http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t47/tootsmazza/P9110368.jpg
Both boys are beautiful with amazing personalities, their new homes are lucky to have them.
