I can hardly believe I am writing this but my boy passed away at lunchtime.
When the vet x-rayed him he found a mass on his spleen which did not look good, I asked him to go ahead with exploratory surgery while he was still under anaesthetic and he found a malignant tumour on the spleen which had spread to his liver.
I did not want him brought round so we let him go.
Its devastating, he was only five (poss six we were never quite sure), but I am comforted that I said goodbye this morning with no knowledge of what was to come and he knew nothing about what was going on.
He had shown no sign of pain but as you all know had lost weight recently and was definitely not his usual bouncy self.
Marie
Myself and Liz are gutted to hear this sad and shocking news. We both knew Byron well from his time at Lorna’s as he and Maddie bonded straight away. What a great dog he was. Can’t believe it. Run free Byron. Joe.
I am so very shocked and saddened to hear your devastating news and my heart goes out to you.
I didn’t know Byron apart from seeing him at the walk on the day he featured in the Sunday Mail, but from the way you and everyone on the forum spoke of him it was obvious he was a much loved and cared for character.
My wee labrador girl Saffy was also diagnosed with liver cancer on the operating table and like you I let her go while she was asleep although my heart screamed out to hold her one more time.
It is a hard, hard price we pay for loving them so much.
Mairi, there is nothing I can say that I’ve not already said. I am so, so heartbroken for you, it was so unexpected. Byron was one of the funniest, most charismatic greyhounds I have ever met and rainbow bridge has gained an angel. Him and Mason will be making friends at the bridge and talking about how wonderful their mum is.
Im so sorry to hear that he has gone!!!What a shock.I feel so sorry for you.I was so interested hearing how he was doing over the past wee while.Thought he was getting better.Thinking of you just now.
Marie, so truly sorry to hear what has happened today your love for all the dogs knows no bounds .
thinking of you and nell, take comfort in knowing you always did the best for each and every one of the dogs with love and understanding
So shocked and so so sorry to hear the news Marie, I can’t believe it. Our thoughts are with you. It’s always hard to let them go over the bridge but we all know when the time comes it’d be selfish to keep them here.
Run free and bounce madly over the rainbow bridge Byron, you’ll have a warm welcome.
I can only echo what others have said Marie, sorry to hear the news on Byron. I never met him but you always made me laugh when you talked about his antics.
I was so shocked and saddened to read about Byron this afternoon. He was such a character and made himself right at home on my couch when you did my home check last March.
My 2 got extra cuddles when I got home from work today.
He’s got his big bro Mason to look out for him now, run free at the bridge big lad.
I thot i was imagining things wen i saw your post…im now in tears after watching him in the video OMG life is so unfair Marie-you have been good with me with zigs too foning me,and youve lost your own boy-im devastated for you…..lost for words Run free Bron xxxx
