Hi all

Allison and I met this morning to take Jodi, Shadow and Petra a walk from David Livingstone Centre to Bothwell Castle - great walk I would recommend it.

Anyway, we got talking about dog friendly holidays and I wondered if anyone could recommend any nice cottages either in Scotland or England (Yorkshire way)? We are looking to book for the very end of August /  start of September.

We went to a small place in North Yorkshire called Newsham last year and it was brilliant and we are looking for somewhere similar. The only downside with that cottage was that it did not have an enclosed garden.

That sounds lovely. So wish I could drive so I can take my two these places. My dog walker takes them all sorts of places though! Me and Ian took Meggy and foster boy Billy up to the wigwams in loch lomond in the summer. The dogs loved it. Not suitable for a week though, but nice for a couple of days when the weather is nice.

I noticed in the Dogs Trust mag last night that dogs are allowed in Welcome Cottages and go free, 10% is also donated to Dogs Trust. The website is http://www.dogstrust-cottages.co.uk , I’ve not looked at it myself so I’ve no idea what it’s like.

Let me know if you do that walk again, I walked from Uddingston to David Livingston along the Clyde side and back last week.

I can vouch for the walk and will join you any weekend, I grew up in Bothwell and used to walk to the centre often as my aunt worked there. I often meet my mum for walks that way.

PS Elaine, she has met Clyde a few times with the dogwalker but not Christie yet!!

quite glad you posted as I’m also in the process of looking for a hound friendly holiday home…

One site I’ve found is http://www.cottageguide.co.uk and have sent a few enquiries through this. it allows you to search by map area and criteria like ‘pets allowed’.

we’re looking up north in the moray area, trying to get a wee cottage in cullen at around the same time. ..

we also took mia up to the wigwams at strathfillan last summer - we hired a lodge, which had a separate bedroom and gave us our own bathroom and kitchen facilities, but unless you’ve got lots of plans to travel around the area and use the wigwams as a base i’d also say it’s maybe just nice for a few days…we got quite a bit of rain so mia and i spent most of the time curled up on the couch napping!

Hi Kate

We have booked a lovely cottage just outside Dufftown for the last week in May.  Fabulous area so all we need now is some good weather. We have taken Stable Cottage as it’s just the two of us plus 2 dogs and they have given a discount because we not using second bedroom. Looks wonderful - you should check out their website. Have also spoken to them on the phone and they seem really nice.

Hi all,

Thanks for the websites for holidays, I will check these out.

Seems the walk from Blantyre to Bothwell is popular with all, is anyone free Saturday to meet and do this walk with their hounds? The weather forecast looks good.

Laura - there is a train station literally 5 minutes (at most) from the David Livingstone Centre if you fancied it, it’s on the same street as the Centre, its just called ‘Blantyre’.

Hi Allison, Laura, and Elaine,

Does 11am suit for Saturday? We could meet at the car park in the David Livingstone Centre.

I am easy time wise, Laura does this suit with your train time?

Could we make it 12? I think I will just bring my girly and make her feel special.

12 suits me fine. Be lovely for dogs to get a walk together and maybe a wee run off- leash up by the castle.

Till Saturday.

Yeah, 12 suits me fine. My 2 will need to stay on lead at the castle for the safety of other dogs (Clyde) and squirrels (Christie).
