Hi, I have two lurchers that I rescued from Bothwell Bridge Animal Rescue centre about 6 years ago. I went to quite a few GAL days with my dogs before I had babies & moved down south.
This morning my oldest dog Kai (we think he is about 8 years old) was behaving very strange. He was very quiet & seemed a little disorientated. As the morning went on, he seemed to get worse. I could not find him at one point & then found him lying in a corner at the bottom of the garden. This is when I became most alarmed as he seemed to be looking for a quiet place (my last dog many years ago did this when he was dying). I called the vet & we took him straight down. His back legs had gone, he could no longer walk and was very cold by this time (this all happenned just over a few hours).
The vet took him in straight away & called us about half an hour later to say Kai had a Pericardial Effusion, which he explained meant fluid around his heart. They said they would drain this straight away & hopefully he should be ok. The Vet said that usually this is caused by a tumour but that they could not see one. The operation has gone okay & they are keeping him in for observation. They will do more tests tomorrow & let us know how he is in the morning. They also said he has too many red blood cells that they will need to check.
Just wondering if anyone had experienced this with their dogs. Any advice would be much appreciated, I am extremely worried.
