Introducing Cal, our new foster boy. He’s a 13 year old ‘salt and pepper’ coloured wire haired, medium sized lurcher. He’s cat safe, good with other dogs and in good shape for his age (bit shakey on his hind at times). He was rescued as a 2 year old so has plenty of experience being a house dog.
Jingle and Coal think Cal’s alright but he’s not playful enough for them! lol Impressively our cat decided Cal was cat safe before I got a chance to do my ‘proper’ introductions (she usually hides the first day a new foster comes) and strolled right past him within a few hours of his arrival…I don’t think he noticed!
Bless him, he looks like a lovely older gentleman. Its always particularly sad when an old dog has to come in but I am sure there is a home for him out there.
Marie
What a handsome big boy he is. It always makes me so sad too, seeing older dogs coming in. He will have someone out there for him somewhere. He’s such a lucky soul, having you, Bruce, Jingle and Coal there to look after him. How was his first night?
Wonderful Laura. I’ve a real soft spot for the older dogs, as Marie says it’s very sad to see them searching for their forever home in their later years.
Awe he is very handsome. A wise old character too I bet. I totally agree, it’s so sad getting to the ripe old age of 13 and looking for a loving home but I’m positive, there is a perfect home just waiting for him.
He is absolutely gorgeous! Pity that my two as still so young and boisterous - they would run rings round the poor old soldier! Shouldn’t really admit this but I am so drawn to the shaggy ones with the sad eyes!
Sad though that he needs to be re-homed at 13 but someone will love him to bits!
Laura he is gorgeous! I really like the hairy ones and was smittten with Diesel when he came along, this old boy is lovely! Be careful, you might end up keeping him yourselves LOL
So glad he is with such lovely foster carers as you and Bruce, he will gets lots of cuddles and treats!x
Oh wow,my perfect combination, an oldie and a hairy, bless him,he’s gorgeous,I love oldies, they still have so much to give.
He does need a home . Cal much like our beloved and much-missed Speedy will because of his age, is likely to remain GAL’s responsibility but is looking for a long term foster home to see out his days with our support.
Taking on an oldie is a wonderfully rewarding experience, I should know I had my grand old dame Nellie, but it does mean accepting your time with them is likely to be more limited than with a younger dog.
Marie
I still miss our GAL oldies Sam and Gala,Sam was with us about a year and a half, they were twelve when they came here,Gala went on to the grand old age of seventeen and a bit,we mightn’t have had them long but we loved every minute, funny quirks and all.
