Need some advice here.

I posted on the forum recently about Bud leaving us meaning Keera is now on her own.

We had to take her to the vet for her drink intake and constant weeing through the night and when left in herself - which is not that often.  A lot of protein and a course of antibiotics have not worked so we are off to vet again on Saturday.

In addition to the weeing she is also (according to my neighbour) howling when we are out.  He is says it is not a problem for him (he is a nice guy!).

I’ve read related posts here on the protein in the urine and I am wondering whether this may not be related to physical but more emotional.  Her symptoms kicked in about a week after Bud went - coincidence or stress at being on her own?

The vet wasn’t too convinced when I mentioned this although I plan to mention again on Saturday.

Has anyone else experienced this with their remaining dog?  Its like a sudden separation anxiety.

It may well be a reaction to being an only dog, certainly the howling when left suggests she is missing the company if she didn’t do it before.
Is Keera of an age where she may be suffering some incontinence issues?
My Nell began leaking when she was 10 but she also suffered from what my vet called stress incontinence - every time we went to the vet she peed in the waiting room, then again in the consulting room no matter how many time she was taken out before going.
And if she got a fright (like the time she got a bin bag caught on her ear) we had to open the door straight away so she could run out and pee.
Maybe Keera would benefit from a new pal but if you are not ready or worried about her reaction maybe fostering is worth a shot to see how she responds?

That sounds like a good idea! The last thing you want to do is get another dog for company and find that it worsens the problem. Fostering would help you and Keera discover if another dog is right for you and it may cast light on what is wrong with Keera. Needs to be the right dog of course!

Keera will be 10 in August and has never had incontinence/whining.  I have fostered twice before - Bud was a foster dog (for about a fortnight!).  Don’t think we are ready for another one at the moment especially if the vet is going to be costing us money.

We had to stop the Strathclyde Park walks due to having 2 geys and one small car but think we need to get back to the walks and socialise her as she is “unsociable” with any other breed.

My instincts tell me there is nothing physically wrong with her but maybe vet will prove me wrong.

Let’s hope your instincts are right and you can settle her soon!
