All set for 2010

19 January 2010

It may have appeared that GAL has been in hibernation recently, and whilst it has been a quieter time for the charity, the committee has been beavering away in the background making sure that the future of the wonderful dogs its volunteers and supporters feel so passionately about is secure.

The First Steps Rehabilitation Centre is up and running with rescued hounds enjoying the wonderful facilites it has to offer.  GAL is now able to give these dogs the best possible start on the road to becoming family pets.

The three big events of the year have been booked and it is now heads down to make sure that they are successful.  As always volunteers will be required, so if you can help out please think of doing so.

The Spring Fayre will take place on Sunday 21st March, the Summer GALa on Sunday 22nd August and the Christmas Fayre will be a fabulous finale to the fund raising year on Sunday 29th November.

The events will be held in Larkhall Leisure Centre, and if the attendance is anything to go by, this is a popular venue with excellent parking and ease of access to public transport and the motorway from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

There will be two Psychic Nights in 2010, the first will be Thursday 6th May and the second will be Thursday 11th November.  Both events will be held in Kingspark Hotel, Rutherglen and of course the phsycic medium for the events will be GAL supporter Ricky Martin.  Thanks in advance to Ricky for his dedication to GAL.

There is also the GAL Children’s Club, with a single membership costing only £5!  A membership for 2 children in a family is only £8.  Very affordable and a great use of pocket money or as a birthday gift.  All members of this exclusive club receive a certificate and a badge with GAL’s lovely Petra taking pride of place!  As well as regular updates on GAL’s events.

Of course it is not just the big events which bring in cash and raise awareness of the plight of the retired greyhound and ex working lurcher.  If you are in a position to organise a small fund raiser,  we would be happy to assist with leaflets.  Or you could have a clear out and take a table at your local car boot sale.

We look forward to seeing you at the first GAL walk of the year at Strathclyde Park on Sunday 7th February at 11am.  The meeting point will be the Bothwellhaugh Pavilion for all walks in 2010.
